Travel Advice | Mobile Hotspots

Is that the internet in your pocket? Or are you just happy to see me? Whether you’re on tour and the theater has no WiFi, or you’re trying to do business at the local Starbucks, but half of NYU is eating up all the signal, a mobile hotspot can be a life (and sometimes job) saver. But unfortunately, I’ve had many a friend fork over some serious cash for one of those sexy little mobile hotspot devices without realizing that, like He-Man, THEY HAVE THE POWER….to become a mobile hotspot! This week’s travel advice delves into the options currently available to be a walking hotspot.

Most carriers charge a very reasonable fee to add this capability to your smartphone ($15-$45), avoiding having to pay for any extra equipment! The only downside is, just like when I try to watch TV, eat pizza, and do work at the same time, we’re not good at multitasking. Keep in mind, your phone can’t be tethered AND make/receive calls, so opting for the separate mobile hotspot device solves that issue…if it’s an issue for you.
